Summary:
Caesar is happy that Smiley ate the candy as directed. He then calls out for Smiley to be reborn as the people in the cell look on nervously. Bubbles begin to flow from Smiley as he chases after the Straw Hats, Kin’emons and Caesar’s underlings. The underlings panic as Sanji observes that the candy has started some kind of chemical reaction in the slime. Kin’emon remarks that he doesn’t feel good about the whole thing and Zoro agrees. There is a bag of apples on the broken sled. One of the apples in the bag begins to change its appearance and swirls appear on it, turning into a devil fruit. Caesar then tells Smiley that they will meet again and orders Shinokuni to revive. Smiley then explodes, causing it to release a high-pressure cloud of toxic gas. The gas quickly catches up with the fleeing pirates and underlings. Catching one of them, the satyr closes completely and stops mid-run. The rest of the satyrs are horrified at what it has done to the afflicted and speed up while Caesar celebrates the total success of his weapon and says that he will not let any of the underlings back into the lab. He explains that the gas hardens when it comes in contact with people, making them unable to move and causing an immediate numbing effect. Smoker and the other prisoners watch the screen showing the men’s terrible fate in stunned silence, as do the underworld brokers.
Outside the lab, the G-5 marines watch the broadcast and realize that what they saw on the screen is happening on the very island they found themselves on. They realize that the only reason the lab is locked down is because it’s the only safe place on the island. He then angrily yells at Caesar to let them in. Zoro, Sanji, Brook, and Kin’emon can barely keep up with the gas. Brook points out that some animal is in front of them. It is the dragon that pulled the now destroyed sleigh. Sanji doesn’t believe it, but Zoro tells him that they exist on the island and wonders if they could escape by riding on his back, an idea that Brook likes.
Back at the lab, Luffy notices his friends on the screen. Robin wonders why they are there and how they are able to run the way they are. Franky tells her that’s not the best question to ask right now. Luffy calls out to his friends that the gas is dangerous and tells them to run, but is cut off by the debilitating effects of the sea stone, preventing him from raising his voice. Caesar praises Luffy’s friends for their toughness, but tells him it’s all for naught as the island will soon become a place where nothing can exist, the shinokuni and the only people who can survive are inside the lab. At that moment, the cage will start to tip backwards. Caesar brags that a pirate with a bounty of 400,000,000 Beli, a Marine vice admiral, and the Shichibukai couldn’t stop him.
Chopper watches the cage tip over from behind, or rather in front of the door, and worries about what he should do. At that moment, a small piece of paper hits him in the head. He unwraps it and sees the words “do nothing” and wonders who threw it.
The cage, revealed to be attached to a crane outside, is now outside the facility and hanging above the crowd by the door. The marines outside call out to Smoker and Tashigi, horrified that they’ve all been captured. The soldiers start begging for their lives and Smoker tells Tashigi to tell them about Verga. The situation is such that even Luffy admits that they have a problem. Overlooking the destroyed lab building, Franky praises the lab and how well it is built, with Robin noting that the rubble would be a good source of raw materials. Law tells Luffy that he can’t bother them now. The current plan is to do the old thing, but do it right this time. Law then states that they are going to fight.
