One Piece Episode 288

Summary:

Nami becomes Kalifa’s adversary, Kumadori goes after Chopper, and Luffy unleashes a new power! Meanwhile, Franky struggles with Fukurou trying to get into the kitchen to refill the Coke.

Nami starts running up the stairs to face Kalifa as Kumadori stomps on it, wanting to continue fighting her. Chopper tells Nami to continue as she faces him. He then transforms into Arm point and attacks Kumadori, telling him that he will be his opponent.

Meanwhile, Chimney and Gonbe save Luffy from drowning and pump out all the water he has taken. Once revived, Luffy returns to his pursuit of Robin. Thinking nothing of it, he begins to reach out and grab a nearby cannon, preparing to fire it, hoping to fly through the eddies. But when Chimney tells him she found another way there, he accidentally falls into the water again. After he was rescued, Chimney and Gonbe showed him again the secret passage they found. She tells him that they followed “the guy with Lucci” (Spandam), Lucci, and “the black-haired neechan” (Robin) to the place. Running down the stairs, they came to a pair of giant steel doors. Seeing that a key was needed to open the door, Luffy told Chimney and Gonba to back off. Luffy uses Gear 3 and smashes the door with massive force. This is the first time Luffy uses the Gear 3 technique, although only his shadow is visible. When the dust cleared, Chimney and Gonbe looked in awe at the huge hole where the door had once been, then to their surprise, Luffy had been reduced to a Chibi-like form!

Meanwhile, Spandam hears a huge bang and is worried. Lucci calmly says that it must have been the pirates who broke through the door. Spandam says it was impossible not only because it was a solid steel door, but also because they didn’t know how to get into the door room. Lucci tells him that a girl and her bunny were following them, and Spandam demands to know why he didn’t stop them or attack them. Lucci simply says he was not ordered to do so. An enraged Spandam tells him that his first priority is to protect his life above all else and eliminate anyone who stands in his way. Spandam then orders Lucci to take Robin and rush to the Gate of Justice before the pirates catch up with him. At the same time, Luffy, running down the path, reverts back to his normal size and moves closer and closer to Robin.

Meanwhile, Nami had just reached the place in the structure where Kalifa was last seen. Before entering the room, she wonders how Sanji ended up the way he is now. Then she heard water running outside the door. He opens it to find Kalifa undressing, seen as a shadow behind a veil, preparing to take a bath.

The scene changes to Franky facing Fukurou. Fukurou was using Sora to keep Franky from catching up. Franky eventually catches him and throws Fukurou against the wall and uses his Bean left technique on him. However, this drained the small remains of his Coke, so he hurried to the kitchen. However, Fukurou suddenly appears in front of him, unharmed. Franky calls him a coward for running away like that, which angers Fukurou enough to make him use his special Jugon strike, which he claims is faster and stronger than Shigan’s normal move. Franky, despite being knocked down by the attack, stands firm and pulls the skin off his right hand as he prepares to attack with the Strong Hammer. Fukurou performs a Tekkai, and since Franky was low on cola, the attack did little damage. Fukurou punches him again and Franky tells Fukurou that his punches are weak. Fukurou disagrees with him, saying that Franky’s punch was flimsy. Franky said if that was true then his punch was a paper punch. Fukurou then said that he was just pants.

Then Franky and Fukurou started punching each other and throwing clothing related insults at each other. Their fight broke through the wall into the kitchen. Franky then notices a huge refrigerator in the room. Just then, Chopper and Kumadori burst into the room. Chopper, now in Heavy Point form, is running out of time to use Rumble Ball. Kumadori was about to attack, but then Chopper opened the fridge and locked Kumadori inside. Franky yells at him for dealing with that fridge, but Chopper, like Luffy, still doesn’t have Franky for beating up Usopp. Franky tells him that if he wants to save Robin, he will have to help him by tossing him a Coke from the fridge to give him energy.

Fukurou, now angrier by the minute, uses his Jugon Ougi (Jugon’s Secret Attack) to create duplicates of himself and punch Franky repeatedly. Franky tries to fight back, but he’s just too weak. Recognizing that Franky is not the enemy, Chopper begins searching the fridge for Coke. Chopper opens the fridge fast enough that Kumadori doesn’t come out and throws three bottles of liquid at Franky, probably thinking it’s Coke. Franky places them in his own mini fridge and takes on the form of Fresh Franky with onion hair. He will use his special Veggie-punch on Fukura, but it won’t do any damage. After being hit by another Jugon attack, Franky threw the bottles back at Chopper, telling him that it was Vegetable Juice and that he needed to check the fridge for a Coke.

Chopper opens the fridge again and throws three more bottles at Franky. This time, Franky’s hair curls and he sits up and speaks calmly, adopting the character of a farmer. He says that working in the fields was hard work and that they should stop fighting and simply have tea. Franky snaps out of her and throws the tea bottles at Chopper again, who is thoroughly amused by Franky’s persona. Franky says she has no other personalities and says she will only marry Coke. Chopper then throws 3 more bottles at him, which are definitely Coke. Franky jumps for them, but Fukurou, who tries to stop him from using the cola to boot, uses his Rankyaku technique on him. Franky is knocked to the ground, but when the smoke clears, it can be seen that Franky has put Coke bottles in it and started it up!

Franky then slowly walks up to Fukurou with his fists raised and tells him to get ready. Fukurou laughs it off, assuming the next blow will be just as weak. Franky uses his Power Hammer move, which knocks Fukurou through three walls and outside, against the farthest railing of the Enies Lobby. Fukuro is unable to move and appears to be knocked out. Franky then says that Fukurou was right that the punches he was dealing were weak.
