Summary:
As Gomorrah recovers, Chopper reveals that he is blinded and races on. Spandam receives word of their progress just as the Straw Hats arrive at the gate. Zoro cuts through it and while on the roof, Luffy activates “Gear 2” for the first time to fight Bluen.
Gomorrah, despite being hit by the giant iron balls of the Just Eleven judges, gets up and continues to advance. However, one of the attacks hit him in the head and damaged his retina, blinding him; the ride is rough as Gomora crashes into buildings. Chopper tells everyone that Gomorrah promised Sodom that she would take them to the courtyard. He is also motivated to help the Straw Hats and Franky’s family save Franky, the man who saved him and Sodom from being eaten by the Sea King and eventually made them part of the family. Gomorrah continues to charge, but there is a dead end ahead. Zoro and Sanji break through the encroaching building and Gomorrah ends up collapsing, but he makes it. The Marines sounded the alarm; the intruders successfully crossed the main island and reached the Courthouse Plaza.
While Spandam is talking to himself, a sailor barges in, causing Spandam to almost order a Buster Call. Spandam finally discovers that his Den Den Mushi is out of reach and that Enies Lobby is in a state of emergency. Spandam starts bragging to Robin about how weak the straw pirates are. He haughtily asks the agent on the other end if the Slam Hat Pirates were killed by any chance, but the agent’s reply removes any smugness from Spandam’s face: There are about 60 intruders in total (The Slam Hat Pirates are known, but the Franky Family and Galley-La Boatmen are not). Despite mass resistance from marines and agents, they have successfully crossed the main island and are outside the courthouse. Oimo and Kashii have defected (due to Sogeking revealing that Dorry and Brogy were never captured) and are now crossing the main island as well, leaving more destruction in their wake. The total number of casualties up to this point is not five, but over 2000. Luffy is responsible for over 1000 of those casualties; worse, they lost him after he rocketed toward the courthouse.
Meanwhile, the Franky Family and the remaining Straw Hats are considering their next course of action when another judge throws the ball at them. But Yokozuna blocks it with his immense strength. Sanji then follows the chain back, finding and defeating the three jurors. Meanwhile, Zoro cuts off part of the courthouse door, opening a way inside. With enemies quickly approaching, everyone will form up. Remembering what Kokoro had told them, the Frankly Family split into three teams. Mozu and Kiwi lead two groups towards the towers while Zambai leads the rest into the courthouse to support the Straw Hats.
Spandam begins to panic as the gravity of “the worst day in the history of Enies Lobby” hits him. He rushes to the front window and looks out. There he sees Bluen on top of the courthouse (Luffy is down in the hole and can’t be seen) and tries to figure out what’s going on. Before long, Luffy re-emerges from the hole, momentarily disoriented as his face turns into a door. Blueno continues to attack, but Luffy continues to follow him despite Sora, dodging Shigano and managing to knock Rankyaku away from him. Luffy then states that he cannot finish the fight in his current state. He explains that he needs a way to be stronger to protect his friends, and reveals a new technique he developed to take his powers “a step up”. He calls it “Gear 2”.
