One Piece Episode 52

Summary:

Luffy climbed to the platform where Gol D. Roger was executed 22 years ago. The guard calls him to get down because the platform is owned by the world government. Alvida then hits the guard with her mace. The entire crowd, male and female, swoon over her new look, but Luffy only remembers her previous appearance. She claims that she likes the way he hit her in their previous encounter and would like to have a strong man like him. More policemen move in, but are disarmed by Alvida’s beauty.

Buggy arrives and uses the Buggy Bomb to blow up the fountain in the courtyard. A piece of the fountain shoots directly at Alvida, but it slides right off her body, leaving her unharmed. Alvida tells Luffy that she ate the Sube Sube no Mi Devil Fruit, which makes her body super smooth and gives her a younger and more attractive appearance (which she downplays like she always has). Then Buggy and his crew take off their capes and Buggy talks about “Buggy-Kun’s Great Adventure”. The crowd runs away in fear when they realize who it is, but Luffy unknowingly makes fun of his name. Cabaji hits Luffy’s stock set and traps him. Buggy declares his intention to publicly execute Luffy right there on the same platform where Gold Roger died.

Elsewhere, Nami notices bizarre weather patterns; a storm unexpectedly forms. He tells Sanji and Usopp that they have to rush back to the Going Merry. Zoro comes in and asks if they have seen Luffy and has a premonition that something is going to happen. In another part of town, a marine reports to Smoker and Tashigi that Luffy, Buggy, and Alvida are all gathered in the square. He orders one unit to head out to sea to intercept any escape and another to covertly surround the square for an ambush. When the other Straw Hats hear what Buggy has planned for Luffy, Zoro and Sanji run to save him, leaving Nami and Usopp to take their supplies to the ship. As Smoker takes in the scene in the square, he thinks how pathetic Luffy looks. He decides to wait with his men and let Buggy take care of Luffy before rushing in. Luffy freaks out when he realizes he’s about to fall.

Nami tells Usopp that this storm is going to be big. If the marines stop Luffy and Buggy during the storm, they may not be able to escape. The marines are already preparing to raid the port of all the pirate ships. But the Going Merry is in more immediate danger from Mohji and Richie, who are guessing which ship is Luffy’s, based on a jovial Straw Hat Roger who wants to burn it down to ensure Luffy can’t escape if he manages to avoid execution. Back in the square, Luffy begs for mercy as if he’s bored. When given a chance for “last words”, Buggy declares that he will be the Pirate King. Those who were forced to stay and watch stand in shock. This buys time for Zoro and Sanji to arrive. As they fight their way between Buggy and Alvida’s men, Buggy swings his sword. Tashigi is shocked to find out that Zoro is in league with a pirate. Sanji is too far to kick the platform down. Smoker prepares to give the order to attack when Luffy’s head falls. As the sword descends, Luffy calls out to his crew.

Smoker notes that Luffy has a huge smile on his face. But just before Buggy’s sword touches Luffy’s neck, lightning strikes him and kills the execution platform. The platform bursts into flames and collapses, sending Luffy’s hat crashing to the ground as rain begins to fall. Pick it up there…it’s Luffy, unharmed by Buggy, who was electrocuted. He laughs at his luck. Sanji asks Zoro if he believes in God now.

As the shocked crowd just stares at him, Smoker gives the word to attack and Luffy, Zoro and Sanji run. As the marines chase after them, Smoker thinks Luffy is smiling. He thinks Luffy couldn’t recognize Zoro and Sanji would save him. He immediately thought of Roger. Luffy did exactly the same as Roger in his execution. Unit 1 was grounded because the rain had destroyed their gunpowder and the new wind with the current storm would be a tail wind for the ship heading for the Grand Line. Smoker decides to take Luffy personally.

But elsewhere on the island, a green-hooded man with a large tattoo on his face walks the streets, saying that a “storm of fate” has arrived.
