Lacking a ship suitable for the Grand Line, the crew decides to stop at Syrup Village, a small island to the south, in search of a better ship.
In Syrup Village, the town prankster Usopp tricks the townspeople into thinking that pirates have come to attack the village. The townspeople drive him out of town. However, one of the children of Usopp’s pretend pirate crew informs him that the pirates have indeed arrived on the island. Usopp’s pirates go to the coast to confront the crew.
Usopp tries to intimidate them and drive them off the island, but all attempts fail as Luffy examines each of his tricks. Luffy deduces that Usopp is the son of Yasopp, one of Shanks’ crew. After stopping at a local restaurant for a meal, they decide to go to a large hilltop mansion to ask its owner for financial support.
The lady of the mansion, Kaya, is protected by her butler Klahadore after the death of her parents. Despite Usopp being the only one who made her happy, Klahadore bans him from entering the mansion due to his reputation as a delinquent. Still, Usopp sneaks into the mansion and talks to Kaya. The crew follows him and sneaks into the mansion, but Klahadore confronts them for trespassing.
