Summary:
Luffy ends up on an island that the pirate Iron-Mace Alvida uses as a base. There he meets Koby, a boy who was forced to become Alvida’s servant despite his desire to become a Marine. Luffy helps Koby get the courage to face Alvid. Afterwards, Luffy immediately defeats her and leaves the island with Koby.
Luffy sets off on a boat to form his own pirate crew; however, once he left, he ran into his first problem – the hot tub.
Meanwhile, on a remote island, as Alvida inspects her ship, she slaps one of the crew for leaving dust on the deck and asks Koby, “Who’s the fairest in the whole sea?” The boy fearfully answers yes. He notes that Koby is only allowed to stay because he knows more about navigation than everyone else and how he’s useless at everything else. She then orders Koby to clean her shoes.
Sad and distraught, Koby shoves the barrel he found into Alvida’s hideout. Upon approaching, three members of Alvida’s crew (Heppoko, Peppoko, and Poppoko) stop him and take the barrel, bullying him into keeping quiet about the fact that they are going to drink the wine inside without Alvida’s knowledge. Suddenly, Luffy bursts out of the barrel, shocking everyone. Before they get an answer as to why he emerged, Alvida sends his club into cover. Koby and Luffy flee; meanwhile, Alvida accuses her crew of slacking off because she heard someone call out “Aw! What a nice nap!” They explain that it wasn’t them, but an intruder. Alvida fears that the famous bounty hunter Roronoa Zoro is here to claim her bounty.
Elsewhere, Koby dragged Luffy to safety away from Alvida. He shows him his ship, which he built over the past 2 years in an attempt to escape from it, and explains how he got into his situation. Luffy comments on how weak Koby is. Luffy tells Koby his dream to become the Pirate King. Koby can’t believe that Luffy is ready to die for his dream and Luffy punches Koby because he doesn’t like his weaklings. Koby admires Luffy’s outlook on life. Koby then reveals his desires to become a marine and catch bad guys. He boasts that he would rather die trying to escape to join them than spend the rest of his life by Alvida’s side.
Just then, Alvida appears and destroys his ship. Alvida accuses Koby of hiring someone to kill her. When asked who the most beautiful woman is, Luffy interjects and outwardly states that Alvida is an ugly old woman. Inspired by Luffy, Koby tells Alvida straight up what he thinks of her. Alvida punches Koby in anger, but Luffy gets between her and Koby and takes the full force of Alvida’s club; to everyone’s shock, he survives. With one blow of his “Gomu Gomu no Pistol”, Luffy knocks the Alvida down and orders her crew to bring Koby a boat and stay out of his way.
Sometime later, Luffy and Koby are seen sailing out to sea by themselves. Koby tells Luffy more about Zoro, the bounty hunter that Alvida mentioned. Luffy decides he wants to try to recruit Zoro and sets off.
