Summary:
Undeterred by the previous attack, Enel comments to Usopp on how he successfully got onto the deck. Out of breath, Usopp frantically looks around for Sanji and doesn’t see him. Nami’s confusion over the matter confirms to the snipers that Sanji is indeed not there, prompting him to leave in a hurry. Angry, Nami berates Usopp for his cowardice. Behind the door, Usopp debates whether or not he should return to face Enel, finally deciding that “Captain Usopp” knows no fear.
Now charged with bravery – he takes on Enel once more, narrowly escaping a massive lightning attack as soon as he opens the door. When he manages to roll over to Nami, he asks her to save him, but she is furious and instead berates him for being the one to save her. They realize how helpless they really are and joke about asking God (who happens to be their adversary) for guidance. Enel strikes them again with his lightning, missing them by a small margin. After dodging, Usopp notices the hat Nami is wearing, which he confirms is indeed Luffy’s. Nami mentions that he fell off the Maximus some time ago, but Usopp notes that he wouldn’t drown in the island clouds. Nakama agrees to split up temporarily to divert Enel’s focus, while Nami notices her faltering from earlier. She expresses her desire to use it to escape, which makes Usopp incredulous that she would jump from such a height. As they talk, another lightning attack forms behind Usopp, which he barely manages to dodge. He decides to get Enel’s attention by performing his “curse”, which ends up just describing the incredibly unpleasant situations he’s supposed to be in. Enel doesn’t mind, but his distraction gives Nami time to get to the wave. When Enel starts pounding on Usopp, Nami manages to get on the wave. She notices that Giant Jack would be the perfect place for her to land, meanwhile Enel finally understands their intentions. He vows not to let the Straw Hats get away that easily and stops Usopp from grabbing Nami’s outstretched hand as she drives by, much to their shock. Enel prepares another “God’s Judgment”, but before he can execute it, Sanji appears and kicks Usopp towards Nami. Usopp and Nami notice Enel’s powerful attack still coming in, but Sanji tells them to run as he grabs a cigarette. To Nami’s surprise, Usopp speeds up the wave to keep the danger out as Sanji seems to be taking the full brunt of the attack.
With Nami and Usopp now rapidly descending, Enel declares that simply jumping off the ship does not guarantee them escape from his attack and begins to attack the others. However, Sanji still stands and mocks Enel for his aim, claiming that he planned to use the attack to light a cigarette. A smug Enel waits for Sanji’s next move, but the cook instead makes a cryptic remark about “the face of defeat” being in Enel’s future before passing out. The ship immediately goes into malfunction, catching Enel off guard when he realizes that Sanji somehow sabotaged the Maxim before he arrived on board. As Enel begins to search the ship for the extent of the damage, it is revealed that Usopp used his grappling hook to reach Maximus after making sure Nami landed safely. However, immediately after returning to the deck, he is taken aback by the sight of Sanji’s incapacitated body.
