Summary:
The Going Merry is grounded during a period of low tide and Jonathan believes they have reached “mat”. They cleverly use the Impact Dial to power up the ship and the Breath and Flame Dial to re-inflate the Octopus balloon so they can escape.
Lt. Jonathan puts his “9 o’clock” trap into action; during the 9th hour, the base can use the low tide period to prevent ships from escaping. So, when Luffy ordered the ship to go full speed ahead, a hole was ripped through the hull from the rocks at the bottom of the harbor.
The harbor eventually reaches a very low tide so that the ship cannot move. Jonathan cackles through the megaphone about capturing the straw pirates.
So the Straw Hat Pirates set their plan in motion; they use Usopp’s impact dial to launch the ship into the air, then use an octopus balloon inflated by the breath and flame dials to float in the air. Jonathan orders his men to fire a “warning shot” at the balloon. However, Shepherd also aims his bazooka at the balloon, but instead misses and shoots down the marines’ cannon.
Jonathan acknowledges that the straw pirates have won and that they have successfully escaped the G-8. He orders a truce with Drake. Angry that the Straw Hats escaped, Shepherd threatens to have the G-8 disabled, but Jessica punches him. Jonathan explains that meeting the pirates was a bonding experience for the marines, so he’s not upset that the pirates got away.
Meanwhile, the Straw Hats are seen flying towards the sunset. Usopp works to fix the hole.
