Summary:
Whitebeard momentarily limps due to age and physical condition. He is then attacked by Akainu. Admirals Kizaru and Aokiji successfully attacked Commander Marco and Joza. Ace laments the death he caused. Luffy asks Emporio Ivankov for “one last favor”, an injection of Emporio Tension Hormone, which Ivankov reluctantly gives him.
The Whitebeard Pirates begin to panic as Garp, who is considered a legend, has decided to fight. Whitebeard then tells them that Garp is just an “old soldier”, but Akainu interrupts him by saying that he should “focus on his enemy” and attacks with his Hound Blaze, which is deflected by Whitebeard and causes further destruction in the square. Sengoku then orders more executioners as the pirates break through, but are stopped by the pacifists, who are soon defeated by the pirate alliance.
Ivankov watches over Luffy and the surgeon tells him that Luffy is seriously damaged. Ace watches the war and bows his head to what Sengoku is asking him, just as Ace begins to reminisce about his childhood, in which he beat up people who would slander Gol D. Roger with him when he asked. Ace later asks Garp if he “deserved to be born”, to which Garp replies “it’s something he finds to live”. Ace begins cursing his situation as Luffy tries to ask Ivankov for a favor. The pirates and Jinbe break through some marines.
Ace replies to Sengoku that after seeing his loved ones risk everything for him, he is so happy and announces his desire to live, which saddens Garp. The scene shifts to Buggy and his followers, who were thawed by boiling water after freezing Aoki, who still remain naively loyal to him. Whitebeard continues his fight against Akainu, but begins to weaken as he is too old. A worried Marco tries to help him, but Kizaru takes the chance to fire two beams and impale Marco. Jozu was distracted by this and Aokiji froze him. Akainu then plants a brutal magma fist into Whitebeard’s chest. Koby, who is willing to fight, is stopped by Helmeppo when the latter tells him that Koby doesn’t have to fight because the marines are most likely the winners of the war, Koby remembers his promise to Luffy and laments his own weakness.
Luffy asks Ivankov to get more energy hormones, but Ivankov assures him that it’s too dangerous, but Luffy insists on his pleas, stating that he “would rather die after that if he can’t fight”. Ivankov calls him a fool and how he can’t make him take risks or he “wouldn’t be able to face his father”. While the new executioners prepare, Ivankov decides to inject Luffy with hormones that will restore his strength and prompt Koby to advance.
