One Piece Episode 503

Summary:

Sabo’s ship is destroyed by a world noble. Ace and Dadan return to the bandit house to the relief of Luffy and the other bandits. Dogra returns from the city and informs them of Saba’s death. Later, Ace receives a letter from Sabo that was written before he went to sea. The letter told Ace to take care of Luffy.

The Sky Dragon, Saint Jalmack, shoots Saba’s ship again and destroys it, much to the shock of all the citizens watching. Meanwhile, Luffy and the mountain bandits take care of Ace and Dadan, who were trapped in Gray Terminal with Bluejam. Soon after, both Dadan and Ace return, making Luffy and the other bandits happy. Ace tells everyone that after they somehow managed to defeat Bluejam, they couldn’t go back because the fire was too strong. Dadan ran through the fire and created a path for her and Ace to escape, but she was badly burned as a result. Ace took care of Dadan, but couldn’t escape with her because the army was there and was wiping out the remaining survivors, but they returned after a while. Back at the house, Dadan asks Ace not to run to protect himself, to which he replies that if he ever did, he would always feel like he left something behind and that he might lose someone close to him. In this case, he had to protect Luffy from danger. Dadan remembers Garp’s words about Gol D. Roger and mentally comments on how similar they are.

Dogra returns from the city and informs the others about Saba’s death. Enraged by this news, Ace attacks Dogra and then sets out to kill whoever is responsible, but is stopped by Dadan and tied to a tree.

The next day, Ace receives a letter from Sabo asking him to take care of Luffy, after which he breaks down in tears over the loss of his brother. After hearing the news about Sabo, Luffy can’t stop crying. Later, Ace comforts Luffy and convinces him to live freely without any regrets, something Sabo was unable to achieve.

The scene where Sabo’s parents look on in horror at what Jalmack did was not in the manga (although they might be more shocked at what Sabo did on such an important day).
The scene in the anime where Ace and Dadan defeat Bluejam and the scene where Ace takes care of Dadan after the fire are not seen in the manga.
Dadan and the other bandits talk more about Sabo’s death than in the manga.
In the anime, Saint Jalmack’s eyes are shown, and there is another scene in which Jalmack orders his two bodyguards to watch out for someone who might interrupt the ceremony.
