One Piece Episode 68

Summary:

The Going Merry comes to an abrupt halt as the wind stops driving its sails. Vivi comments that time flies as she talks. Luffy interrupts Nami to exclaim that it’s time to fish and Karoo seems to like the idea. Sanji asks if anyone saw the bait and Luffy replies that he ate it there while pointing to the bucket with his eyes. Sanji reveals that they were bugs, while Luffy caught the last one with only two fingers. With the bug half in his mouth, he says they taste good. Sanji adds that they can’t hunt now because he ate the bait. Luffy pulls out an object and says that they can use it as bait, but Sanji replies that you can’t catch anything with it. Luffy points at Karoo and asks what about him, Sanji says that sounds good. Luffy and Sanji begin chasing Karoo around the mast while Nami and Vivi look on. They suddenly step on Zoro while he is sleeping. Zoro then gets angry. Nami gets angry and Sanji comments that she is beautiful when she gets angry. Nami remembers all the big names that Luffy beat, as Vivi thinks it’s weird that he has a bounty of 30,000,000 Beli. Nami mentions that Luffy defeated Arlong, Commodore of the pirate fleet Don Krieg, and Captain Kuro. Zoro then adds that she forgot someone and Nami says the name Axe-Hand Morgan. Saying his name, Luffy remembers Koby and the sail catches the wind. Luffy then states (after Nami asks) that “he” is his friend. The scene cuts to a city with 3 naval ships and Koby piloting them. He then starts telling Luffy that he has achieved his dream of becoming a second lieutenant. Suddenly, a gigantic watery Morgan emerges from the ocean and is about to chop Koby with an ax when another gigantic Luffy stops Morgan’s arm. Luffy throws the giant Morgan and the sight starts to glow. Then Koby passes out and the scene cuts to reality where Koby falls on top of Helmepp (who is sleeping underneath him) and wakes him up.

Helmeppo gets angry and everyone who was sleeping gets angry because they were so noisy. Koby is a chore along with Helmeppo. The Marine tells them that they enlisted without any qualifications, leading them to be fighters. Ironically, Koby is still excited about what he can do, while Helmeppo is angry at Koby for volunteering for multiple jobs and slacking off at work. They go outside to wash the windows and Helmeppo is lounging again as usual, reminiscing about his old days when Morgan was still captain. In a flashback, it’s clear that Helmeppo was very dependent on Morgan’s terror, as when he spilled his own cocoa, he berated the soldiers and reminded them of his father. He then thought that being a buffoon was Luffy’s fault for undressing his father. Koby told Helmepp that blaming someone won’t change anything, not even your destiny. He told Helmepp that it was a sign of weakness and also an emphasis on his trust in his father. When Koby told Helmeppo his dream of being a Marine officer, Helmeppo didn’t believe it was impossible for him, but Koby said he would do it anyway after seeing how Luffy lived his life and risked his life to achieve it. They fought on the roof about the likelihood of their dreams and their cooperation, and some Marines gathered around the building. Suddenly they fell and hit the crates and the cannon next to the crates turned and fired its cannon ball into the building destroying it. As a punishment, they don’t get any money for 50 years and went to eat at Rika and her mom’s shop. They say they got away. Rika brings a newspaper telling Luffy that he escaped from Smoker and Loguetown and Koby discovers that he has reached the Grand Line.

On the ship, Marines guard Morgan as he goes to court. Helmeppo and Koby are on the ship and they both get scared when they see him. The captain tells them that their job is to escort him to the custody of Vice Admiral Garp, so he will go to court. Helmeppo and Koby clean the swords and cannonballs and Helmeppo tells Koby that he respected his father. Helmeppo says he wants to be like his father, but knows he has gone too far and abused his position. Helmeppo begins to cry and wonders why he is crying. He asks Koby if his father will be executed, leaving Koby unable to answer. Garp’s ship finally arrives and Helmeppo and Koby go after him. Garp is wearing his dog hat. When they put Morgan in Garp’s care, Garp falls asleep briefly. The captain shouts at him, but he shouts that he can hear him. He says he didn’t sleep for 5 days and that he set a new donut record by eating 842 non-stop. Garp falls asleep again, but Morgan slashes him and he breaks his chains, taking Helmeppa hostage. He says that he doesn’t need a son and that he just wants freedom. Morgan sails with a small boat still holding Helmepp and the soldiers are ready to fire their cannon. Koby stands in front of the cannon and prevents them from firing. He tells them his friend is on the boat. He swims to reach the small ship and Garp wakes up as if nothing happened. He yawns and stretches his arms. He places his hand breaking the cannon and tells them that the commotion will wake him up. When someone tells him he thought he was killed, Garp realizes that someone (not him) was killed and must have missed it while he was asleep. He asks where the victim is, and when he realizes it, he looks at his chopped up chest and jokingly tells them it was him. Morgan orders Helmeppo to turn the charges west and Helmeppo refuses because he can’t take it anymore. Helmeppo says he’s going to arrest Morgan, but Morgan punches him and asks if he knows who he’s talking to. He asks what he can do alone, and Koby climbs onto the ship, letting him know he’s not alone. Koby tells Morgan to come quietly because he will also “arrest” Morgan.

Garp watches them through binoculars while eating a donut. Guys are easily defeated. While they are fighting Morgan, Morgan grabs Koby and is about to hit him. When he’s about to hit him, he throws the two away instead because they’re not worth killing. Helmeppo says that he will let Morgan escape today, but one day they will cross paths again and he will surely capture him that day. When they get back to the ship, the Marines apologize because they let the criminals escape and it was because of their negligence in not stopping Koby. The captain says the two will be released for their actions. Garp says he has no choice but to tell them to go with him to Marine HQ and tells them if they don’t like it they can run. With that, Koby and Helmeppo sail with Garp, now headed to where Luffy is, the Grand Line.
