Summary:
Momonosuke tells Luffy that he cannot move Onigashi out of the way, but the memory of his family forces him to try anyway. Kaidou tells Luffy that he will attack head on as he takes cover in the fire, a move called Kaen Daiko. In the process, he tells Luffy that Oden died twenty years ago by burning himself, and since then Wano has become a lawless land full of people desperately waiting for their “savior” to appear. The fire causes Luffy to let go, which Kaidou says is the right call and that he had no intention of running away, though he was sure that Luffy wouldn’t be able to crush him with his fist as he would have vaporized her. Kaidou then performs a move called Shoryu: Kaen Hakke while Luffy uses the Gomu Gomu no Bajrang Gun, all the while remembering when Hyogoro taught him advanced Busoshoku Haki, and the two attacks collide.
Inside the castle, Usopp tries to prevent Kin’emon and Kikunojo from drowning, and the other samurai cheer for Luffy to defeat Kaidou, with Kawamatsu saying that unless Kaidou is defeated, their long nightmare will not end. He thinks back to when he and the others fled the Flower Capital after Oden was killed, and Orochi yelled that he would definitely go back to Kuri to protect Momonosuke, only for Kaidou to say that he would take care of him himself. As a result, several loyal samurai were struck down by Kaido and the castle was burned to the ground. Kozuki Toki was pronounced dead in Bakura City and no one else was found, leading Orochi to believe that the Kozuki line had finally ended.
Afterwards, Orochi and Kaidou confronted the remaining daimyo to see who they would side with, and they all quickly took up arms against them, saying that they refused to recognize a non-Oden shogun and would avenge him. Unfortunately, they didn’t stand a chance against Kaidou, and thus none of them could take down Orochi, who continued to enjoy torturing his people. Their actions would lead to several samurai being imprisoned and forced to work as slaves by the pirate Beasts, factories polluting the water and eventually killing all the crops. Still, a few samurai still believed Toki’s words. Orochi later began feeding the people of Ebisu town bad SMILEs so that they would only be able to smile and laugh when they were actually sad, which he felt was a fitting fate for all of them.
In the present, Orochi, still on fire, attempts to attack Hiyori, but Denjiro arrives in time and cuts off Orochi’s last head, ending the psychotic shogun’s reign for good. Surprisingly, one of the wishes written on the sky lanterns was “please make Orochi disappear”, while another is “free us from this hell”, which Luffy is still working on with his clash with Kaida.
