One Piece Episode 388

Summary:

The Straw Hat Pirates battle the Flying Fish Riders and the Makro Fish-Man Pirates. The stakes rise when Duval reveals himself and exactly who his grudge is against: Sanji!

As the Flying Fish Riders make their first flights over the Thousand Sunny, Luffy grabs one, discards its driver, and goes for a ride. Sanji easily kicks away the first drop of grenades towards the ship. Nami orders the sails to be raised, but the battle is almost stopped when the fish dive for the first time to regroup; they can only stay in the air for five minutes at a time. This causes Luffy to go underwater and start drowning. Chopper and Brook jump on it and also drown. Franky and Nami must save all three. Nami scolds them for interrupting their battle.

The macro pirates rise up and go after Camie and Pappago again. At this point, Zoro cuts open the cage and frees Hatchan to join the fight. Hatchan takes on the Fish-Men, with Tansui being an expert in Fish-Man karate and Gyaro having developed a “goldfish sword”. But they are knocked down when Hatchan throws three punches, his “Takoyaki Punch”, then reunites with his friends. Zoro slashes a fish rider that gets too close to them. Although Zoro apologizes for his actions in the fight against Arlong, Zoro reminds him that his Six Sword Style was no match for his own Three Sword Style back then.

Duval orders his men to engage in “The Zero Fight” and offers his men to cover any medical bills incurred as a result of the dangerous battle plan. One of the men makes a kamikaze attack. Sanji kicks the man away while Luffy stops the fish with Gomu Gomu no Fusen and takes it to the ship for dinner. He then decides to ride one again, though Nami says she won’t save him if he drowns again. Brook takes it because drowning was the first thing he did in the Battle of the Straw Hats. He leaps into the air, pulls his sword from his stick, and plays “Lullaby” on his violin, putting several fish riders to sleep – as well as Luffy and Chopper. He then gets into the water and uses his extremely light weight combined with his superhuman strength to run across the water and slash several fish. Luffy grabs one of the fish whose driver has been put to sleep and crashes right into Duval’s hut. Duval puts on his helmet and turns to greet the shocked captain.

Back outside, Zoro is already high, still not 100% after his run in with Bartholomew Kuma in Thriller Bark Brook chops up some more fish, then gets tired and jumps into the compound from Zoro and Hatchan. They are ambushed by a fish rider, which Hatchan cuts down with the Six Swords style Takoashi Kiken. Zoro and Brook returned the favor shortly after. As the fish riders get into formation, Franky is confused by their words and thinks they are calling him. Nami and Robin continue to fight on the ship and Chopper uses the Rumble Ball to reach the Arm Point. Franky stops one that fired a Power Hammer at him.

Luffy runs through Duval’s compound and is chased by his spear cannon and his bison Motobar. They run out and Duval is upset that his men are being mowed down so easily. He runs away from Hatchan and Camie, saying he wasn’t in the slave trade for the money. It was part of his plan to exact revenge on one man: Sanji. At first, Sanji has no idea why Duval would be angry with him. He thinks it might be something from his time on Baratie, but Duval says it’s pretty recent, which makes the chef even more amazed. The spears are poisoned with scorpion venom; any hit will result in death within three minutes.

Luffy tells Zoro that he saw what was under Duval’s mask and Zoro recognizes him as well. He moves in and kicks off Duval’s mask. Everyone can see why Duval is so upset: his face looks exactly like the composite sketch drawn on Sanji’s wanted poster. As a result, he is chased by marines and bounty hunters in Sanji’s place. This thought makes Sanji very angry.
