Summary:
The Straw Hat Pirates sail the sea listening to New Genesis on the tone dial, though Jinbe doesn’t recognize it. Usopp tells him that he’s famous all over the world, and Brook adds that his tune “makes your heart beat wildly.” Meanwhile, Uta stands on a cliff, staring out into the ocean, thinking about her childhood.
12 years ago, Luffy was walking through Foosha Village practicing his punches. He pushes Woop Slap back, knocking over the fruit stand, and the mayor tells him to go help the other villagers instead of wasting time, but Luffy refuses. The merchant gives Luffy a bag of fruit and Luffy leaves and heads for the mountain. There he encounters a monkey who tries to take the fruit. Luffy offers the fruit if the monkey can beat him in a fight and they start fighting. In the end, Luffy wins the fight and the monkey leaves in shame, but Luffy offers him half of the fruit and they eat together.
Later, Luffy is chased by a boar and ends up falling off a cliff into the ocean. However, he is pulled out of the water by Garp, who lectures him about drowning in the ocean, saying that he can’t become a Marine if he can’t swim. Meanwhile, the Red Hair Pirates are sailing at sea with young Uta on board. Shanks gives her the jewelry from the treasure chest and she puts it on and prepares to sing a song for the assembled crew. However, he notices that Shanks isn’t looking and goes to see what he’s looking at. She finds him looking into a chest of fruit, but he refuses to give it to her, even though she is his daughter. She admonishes him for being cheap, but he denies it and points to the kingdom of Goa, where the crew will be staying for a while.
Back on the island, Luffy talks about not becoming a navy soldier and says he’s going to leave the island and do something big. He sees the Red-Haired Pirates approaching the shore, wonders who they are, and runs to the dock to meet them. Luffy tells them to leave the island, but Uta challenges him to kick them out, claiming to be Shanks’ daughter. However, Shanks tells her to leave Luffy alone, saying that they are not here to fight.
Some time later, the Red Hair Pirates are sitting at the Partys Bar and Luffy declares that he wants to be a pirate, despite Shanks admonishing him. Luffy asks to try out for the crew again and plays a shell game with Shanks, but Shanks cheats and Luffy isn’t allowed in the crew. Luffy tries to reverse the trick on Shanks, hiding the coin in his mouth in the same fashion and swallowing it when confronted. Suddenly, Uta enters the bar and tells Luffy not to get too close to Shanks in tacky clothes. He reveals that he is a diva and musician of the Red Hair Pirates.
The crew clears the bar, leaving only one table with a spotlight in the middle, and Uta starts singing Where the Wind Blows. The song impresses Luffy, who declares that he can sing as well, and begins to sing the Moron Song. However, his singing annoys Uta and she runs out of the bar screaming. He says he’s off the field and his singing will cause the crew’s IQ to drop, though he disagrees. As Uta cries to Shanks, he tells them to be friends since they are the same age, though Uta disagrees since she is 9 and Luffy is 7. Shanks asks Luffy to show Uta the village of Foosha, and the kids head into the mountains.
Luffy challenges Uta to climb the cliff, and after a short ride back and forth, they start racing up it. They reach the top at the same time and Luffy says he is impressed by her climbing skills, but Uta says there is nothing Luffy can beat her with. They get angry and start competing. They have a height contest, a cuteness contest, and a leverage contest, all of which Uta wins. They then have a shouting contest, which Uta wins by projecting her voice. Luffy challenges Uta to another contest, but she says she’s just a kid who didn’t realize that the funnest place in the world is inside you.
Later, the two head back to the abandoned windmill and argue about Shanks’ strengths and weaknesses. They climb to the top and look around the city, although Uta says that she has seen more beautiful scenes at sea.
In the present, Uta declares that she will fulfill her dream and continues to look at the ocean.
