On the hill in Carta lies Kyros’ house, where Kyros, the Straw Hats, Law, Kin’emon, Kanjuro, and Bellamy rest and recover from their injuries. Kyros explains why he lives here and offers the group anything they may need, and Kin’emon questions why Bellamy is with them, to which Law replies that Luffy knows him, so he brought him along. Kyros, Usopp and Law fall asleep from exhaustion and the door to the house begins to open. Zoro tenses at the intrusion, but the person entering is Sabo, who throws Zoro a drink. Robin happily welcomes him as Zoro asks where he knows him from, to which he introduces Saba as Luffy’s brother, surprising Franky and Zoro. Sabo approaches Luffy and Robin goes to wake him up, but Sabo says he doesn’t have to. Franky asks if he’s leaving soon, which Sabo confirms and reveals that CP0 is headed their way. The Straw Hats also prepare to leave soon, but wonder why Luffy never told them they had another brother. Sabo reveals that he was presumed dead for a long time after getting into an accident.
Twelve years ago, in the Kingdom of Goa, ten-year-old Sabo asked about the country’s plan to set Gray Terminal on fire. However, he was shocked by the callous remarks about a plan that would kill many people. Sabo ran to warn Ace and Luffy, but ended up beaten and lying in an alley. Monkey D. Dragon approached him and told the mysterious man of his disdain for the city and his position. Feeling trapped, Sabo decided to head out to sea, only to encounter a ship much larger than his small craft. The large ship contained World Noble Jalmack, who shot Saba’s ship with a bazooka because it crossed his path. Sabo tried desperately to put out the flames, but the second shot completely destroyed his ship, sending his tattered hat flying into the water.
Barely alive and with an injury around his left eye, Sabo sank into the depths of the ocean, but was saved when the Dragon grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the water. On a ship that belonged to the Revolutionary Army, Emporio Ivankov and the revolutionaries began to worry when Dragon would return. Dragon then arrived with Sabo in his arms and the ship’s doctor was called. Sabo eventually woke up surrounded by revolutionaries. One of them asked if his name was Sabo since it was written on his property, but Sabo didn’t even remember his name. Another revolutionary decided that they should take him home and find his parents, but Sabo refused, feeling bad about his family despite having no memory of them. Ivankov stated that they couldn’t leave him here, and Sabo replied that they could take him elsewhere. Dragon and Bartholomew Kuma then approached and Ivankov asked Dragon what they should do.
In the present day, the workers are working on rebuilding the palace, while the Corrida Colosseum gladiators are taken to a room inside, with the worker promising them asylum from the marines and the doctor. Boo asks if there will be a feast, but is told it will be later. The gladiators prepare to sleep, especially Cavendish, but Bartolomeo knows what will happen when he goes to sleep. He tells the people to bring him the chain he used to wrap Cavendish around, telling the outraged gladiator that he will see the monster if they don’t.
At Kyros’ house, the Straw Hats ask Sabo if that’s how he joined the revolutionary army, and Sabo says that it was like that. 12 years ago, Sabo was training on Baltigo with some kids under Hack, but stopped training. Sabo told Hack that he would train before escaping, and Hack told Ivankov that Sabo had a lot of battle experience that his body still remembered. Days passed, Sabo trained and studied intensively. One day, Sabo fought Hack and managed to take the fishman’s belt off, causing his pants to fall off. Kuma then approached him and was excited to fight him next but was easily blown away. Meanwhile, Ace and Luffy were sitting on the shores of Dawn Island, vowing to become stronger and become pirates at the age of 17. Two years later, Sabo was peeling potatoes with a koala, but when they got another box, he was upset. He decided to break into the apples and eat them, but was admonished by the Koala. He later fought Kuma again, who sent him into a pile of boxes. However, Sabo discovered a pipe inside the wreckage and used it to get out of Kuma and attack Dragon. The dragon dodged Saba’s blow and knocked him down, but appreciated his fighting skills.
Seven years later, Ace sets out to sea to become a pirate, and the revolutionary army battles a military fortress. Hack and Koala sat helplessly in the trenches, wondering what the people who sneaked in there first were doing. At that moment, Sabo called them and briefly said that he would think of something before hanging up. Sabo then appeared right in front of the entrance and ran towards it despite the enemy fire. Confirming his Busoshoku Haki arm, he broke open the door and easily entered the fortress. Sabo dispatched the enemy soldiers while the other revolutionaries freed the captured citizens and allies, and when he was surrounded, Sabo completely destroyed the fortress using the Ryusoken. In Baltigo, Sabo was praised for his victory, and the revolutionary talked about a rookie of Sabo’s age who refused to join the Shichibukai. He started to say Ace’s name, but Sabo finished, stunning them. However, Sabo couldn’t remember what he said. Three years later, Luffy took to the sea and faced the Lord of the Coast as the 20-year-old Sabo also took to the sea. Back in the present, the Straw Hats ask Sabo how he got his memory back, and Sabo is tensed when he reveals that Ace’s death has reawakened him.
