One Piece Episode 940

Summary:

After claiming responsibility for Kin’emon’s secret message, saying it was a prank, and questioning the Rasetsu prison guards, Yasuie meets a brutal end when Orochi and his men shoot him to death.

As the townspeople of Ebisu “laugh” at Yasuie’s death, Hiyori reveals to Zoro that they were affected by a fruit known as SMILE.

To save the rebellion, Yasuie decides to lie and claim that the rebellion flyers were his prank and the people with the crescent moon tattoos are not rebels. Orochi finally arrives at the gallows and prepares to shoot him. Yasuie tells Orochi, “A man of such small caliber will never truly eat Oden.” He reveals that he changed the meeting place on the flyers to keep the revolution alive. Shots are fired at Yasuie.

Yasuie remembers when he was a daimyo. Nine Red Sheaths were captured for stealing money and brought to him. Knowing that Oden was going through financial problems, Yasuie lets them keep the money they stole.

On the cross, Yasuie also sees his daughter Toko running towards him. He recalls a time when he went with his daughter and let her ride on his back. In his final moments, he apologizes to her for abandoning her before he finally dies. His body falls from the cross and hits the ground.

To Zoro’s frustration, the citizens of Ebisu town, including Toko, begin to laugh at the body. Hiyori explains that they are physically unable to show any emotions other than laughter because of the Kaidou SMILE fruits.
The anime adds the following:
Another dialogue when Kin’emon and Inuarashi find Ashura.
Flashback scene of Oden sparring with Yasuie.
Kin’emon deduced Yasuie’s intentions before the latter was shot.
Yasui’s flashback sequence with Toke.
Orochi imagines Oden laughing at him as Yasuie laughs.
Luffy and Hyogoro don’t seem fat in this episode. In the manga, they were still fat when the citizens of Ebisu town mourned Yasuie’s death.
The scene of Yasuie being shot to death is censored and extended in the anime.
