Summary:
Orochi accepts the challenge and Oden must enter the bank for one hour. Shinobu, who is in the crowd, explains Oden’s naked dances.
Although Orochi initially scoffs at Oden’s proposal, Kaidou accepts the challenge and agrees to release the detainees if they survive one hour in the pot. Oden stepped into the pot, already sunburned by the boiling oil. The other retainers run up the plank to get in as well, but Oden lifts the plank, allowing his retainers to sit safe from the boiling oil. Kaidou let him because they were technically in sweat.
Not even a minute passed and Oden was already trying to lift the board. It forced Oden to stand on the bottom of the pot, his veins bursting under the pressure. Watching the event from the sidelines, Shinobu attacked the man who called Oden a “stupid master”. She publicly challenged the oppressive shogun Orochi.
While in the pot, Oden thought about what Orochi had told him in the palace. Orochi revealed that he harbored an immense hatred for Wano Country for humiliating his family. Because his grandfather’s assassination plans were discovered and he committed seppuku, the other members of the Kurozumi family were hunted down, beaten, and killed by other people. He intended to destroy the country through his repressive regime as an act of revenge for his family’s suffering.
Shinobu reveals more, she was hiding in the ceiling when it happened. Orochi kidnapped hundreds of citizens meant as tribute to Kaidou. At that moment, Orochi made Oden a bargain; Orochi would stop kidnapping and he and Kaidou would leave the land of Wano after five years. In exchange, Oden had to dance naked in the Flower Capital every week while Orochi humiliated him. Oden decided he had no choice as he didn’t stand a chance against Kaidou.
Shinobu finishes her story, stating that Oden’s naked dances were in an effort to free the kidnapped citizens. Although he was not honored at the time, citizens who witnessed the execution were moved by Oden’s sacrifices.
The anime adds the following:
Oden and Kaidou (in his Beast Form) have a brief fight atop the Flower Capital Castle. After Oden falls back into Orochi’s room, he and Kaidou continue to fight.
