Summary:
Luffy begins to fight Moria, entering Gear 2 in the process, but the blows he inflicts on Moria are not enough to force him to release the shadows. Moria attacks Luffy with a devastating blow, but he manages to continue fighting and activates Gear 3 while Gear 2 is still active. With a new technique, the Gomu Gomu no Gigant Jet Shell, he knocks Moria under the collapsing mast of Thriller Bark, forcing him to release all the shadows just as dawn is coming. However, those who have had their shadows stolen begin to disappear.
To their horror, the defeated pirates find that Moria has grown to immense size from the thousands of shadows he has absorbed. The zombie soldiers prepare to take on the worst when Luffy grows back to his normal size. With dawn approaching, time is short now.
Moria roars and smashes part of the Thriller Bark as much of the Rolling Pirates try to escape. As they attempt to do so, the sunlight begins to burn some of the pirates who don’t have their shadows. Lola intends to stay behind while her crew flees and see to it that the Straw Hats don’t flee in terror of Moria’s power. She hopes that the Straw Hats will at least have a fighting chance just as the sunlight hits her, but Lola shrugs her shoulders to believe in Luffy.
Zoro sees Moria become much larger and Robin notices how his pride has caused him to lose control. Luffy orders his crew to get the others to safety while he fights Moria. Lola’s pirates see that with such power in his body, Moria will have a huge advantage and there is not much time left until dawn.
Luffy enters Gear 2 as Zoro notes that either the sun will vaporize them all or the Thriller Bark monster will be destroyed. Moria tries to claw at Luffy, but Luffy dodges and uses Gum Gum Jet Rocket to hit Moria hard and release some of the shadows. Captain Straw Hat then uses jet Bazooka fire to force Moria to release hundreds of shadows, weakening him. However, Moria traps Luffy in the Black Box via his Brick Bats. He then crushes the box and says it’s punishment for going against him.
Even after a series of stomps, Luffy breaks out. He also says that even if it’s a nail that sticks out, it won’t be hammered. Luffy also warns that he would return all the shadows to their rightful owners regardless.
With time running out, Luffy switches to Gear 3 and Usopp wonders when his captain last used it. With his rubber body now huge, Luffy uses the Gum Gum Giant Jet Shell to force Moria to throw out more shadows, but he struggles to hold them back. Lola calls out for her shadow to return to her.
Telling his shadow to form and return to him, Luffy delivers another hard blow to Moria. Thriller Bark’s main tower collapses on Moria. With the shadows of Moria escaping, she warns Luffy of the nightmares that await him in the New World.
Just then the morning light comes and Luffy, Zoro, Robin and Sanji start to burn. Usopp and Chopper scream in horror that their shadows can’t reach them.
